The book started out well, the usual outlining of family life when growing up that you would expect from a sports auto biog and some interesting tales; largely his dad building his Kart in the shed as a surprise and his early karting adventures with his dad, meeting Ron Dennis at the Autosport Awards and then almost being dropped from the McLaren academy due to a dispute regarding which direction he took his then F3 career were all interesting. I do hope someone if not him gives us a well written and first had experience of how he got to be on top! Fortunately for me I was unhurt, but the car was quite badly damaged and it set us back in our test programme. One of the few bad days came when I had a big accident testing the new MP4-22 at Valencia in January before the season. I also liked to have additional context about some of the reasons behind the rivalries we see today (Fernando Alonso and The Piquets) and hearing about some of the controversies of 2007 from Lewis himself.

I noticed that he does repeat a lot of statements that he either made early on in the book or earlier in the chapters, but it didn’t bother me. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. It must be the dif between the North American and the UK experience, it seems to work for him and commend his for maintaining his focus at this demanding level. He rose rapidly through the Junior and Formula ranks, dominating every series with his raw speed and canny race craft. I wouldn’t recommend it to the average reader since it’s more focused on his first year in F1 than an autobiography but as a fan, it was great to get an inside look into how Lewis was experiencing things at the time. Hearing how he was raised and his value system makes me proud to be a super admirer of this young man. Lewis also charts how he got into the sport and was signed up by Ron Dennis, what motivates him, who are his closest friends, how he copes with the constant travelling, and the physical and mental challenges of driving a state-of-the-art Formula 1 car. In his first season in F1, Lewis Hamilton thrilled the world of motor racing by finishing on the podium in his first nine consecutive races - the first driver to do so in the sport's 57-year history - and drove to victories in Canada, America, Hungary and Japan.

The way Lewis spoke, how he shared and what he talked about - I could not help but appreciate that child like sense of wonder, excitement and desire to push yourself even more. I had been very young during the 2007 season and I frankly didn't remember much and it was coming from a very young Lewis who was in his rookie season so it wasn't that interesting. I love Lewis Hamilton, believe me I do and I also believe that he is ONE of the greatest drivers to ever race in formula one. If you’re a Hamilton fan or even a Formula 1 fan I would recommend this as a light read with a few chuckles here and there. But bare statistics alone do scant justice to the amazing impact Lewis Hamilton has had on the sporting landscape. I knew I had a future in Formula One and, with reasonable luck, plenty more opportunities to win the World Championship.
